Devices
Connect the access terminal you already have, in observe-only mode
MoveBase is designed for ZKTeco terminals over the PUSH protocol, for our own QR gate and for reading a terminal over the local network. What a registered device reports is only read and recorded; nothing is written to it until the gym's owner or a manager explicitly asks. The device connection has not been tested on real hardware yet, and we tell you that before any promise.
Three kinds of device
Gym access control with these three; no other brand is promised.
ZKTeco face and fingerprint terminals
Face, fingerprint or card. The terminal opens the door itself and reports the entry; MoveBase reads the report and matches it to a member card. For a direct connection only the device's cloud server address changes; if your device reports to the vendor's cloud, the LAN bridge reads it with no change to the device at all.
The QR gate
A small unit with a QR reader and a relay that asks the server on every scan. If the server is unreachable it says no, and the desk takes over. For now it is a reference design that has not been built or tested on hardware yet.
The LAN bridge
A small program on the gym's computer that reads a device with no cloud connection, or one run by other software, over the local network. It never writes to the device and never reads face templates, passwords or card numbers.
The default mode
Observe-only, until you decide otherwise
A device you register is in observe-only mode: MoveBase listens to it and records, and has no commands for it. Managed mode is a separate switch for the gym's owner or a manager, after a warning and only once the device's allowed network is registered; even then, only users MoveBase created itself are added or removed, never the device's existing users. The owner or a manager matches the device's users to member cards; a device user id is never assumed to be a card number.
- A ZKTeco terminal admits whoever it holds; an entry the gym's rules refuse is shown to the desk at once as "let in against the rules", with the reason
- In managed mode, a member whose membership ends is removed from the device and enrols their face again after renewing
- An unmatched user is "an unknown person on the device"; nothing is deleted and nothing is charged
- A step-by-step device test with a printable report
- Where exits are recorded too: who is inside now, the length of each visit, a re-entry warning (the QR gate refuses it and a ZKTeco terminal reports it to the desk) and a crowd level in the member app
Face and fingerprint
Face entry, with each member's separate consent
Entering by face or fingerprint needs the member's explicit, separate consent: in the app, or on paper at the desk, recorded with the staff member's name and the time. It can be withdrawn at any time from either side, and on withdrawal the member is removed from every managed device MoveBase had put them on. MoveBase puts nobody on a device without consent and never changes the people the gym's own software enrolled; the check-in code, the card and the desk always remain.
- MoveBase never stores a face or a fingerprint; templates are never requested from the device, and if one is sent it is discarded unread
- What is kept: that consent was given, when, how and by whom; and which device the member is enrolled on
- The member sees in the app what is kept and where
Common questions about devices
Our device is not a ZKTeco.
For now only ZKTeco terminals (over PUSH or through the LAN bridge) and our own QR gate are built. Many devices sold under other names speak the same ZKTeco protocol, and the LAN bridge is designed for those too; we promise no other brand. Tell us your device model in the demo.
Has it been tested on a real device?
Not yet. The server side of the ZKTeco connection is built and tested against a simulator, and the LAN bridge has its own tests, but no real device has been read yet. The QR gate is for now a reference design whose firmware has not been built or tested on hardware. That is why we write "designed for" everywhere, not "works with".
Do you sell hardware?
No. You buy the ZKTeco terminal yourself. The QR gate design (a small board, a QR reader and a relay) and the LAN bridge are documented, and building and installing them is up to you or your installer.
What if a member withdraws their face consent?
They are removed from every managed device MoveBase had put them on. If the gym's own software enrolled them, MoveBase shows which device they are on so the desk removes them there. The check-in code, the card and the desk always remain.
What if the server is unreachable?
ZKTeco terminals decide on their own and open the door for the people they hold; whether entries made during an outage reach MoveBase afterwards has not been tested on a real device yet. Our QR gate says no, and the member goes to the desk.
